Classical models of structured populations do not apply well to populations of freshwater fishes, since they evolve in complex networks of river systems that are intermediate between one-dimensional and two-dimensional stepping-stone models. In order to allow the simulation of the genetic diversity of populations drawn from such river systems, we have developed a new simulation program called AQUASPLATCHE. The author is Samuel Neuenschwander.
